We are often asked by our clients, why is ACS attacking me in this way? The answer is very simple. Because New York City has become a wealthier place in the last 20 years, many social services are simply not needed. Parents with resources are able to obtain help privately without the interference and the treat of court action. This leaves ACS is a difficult position. Like every business, they need customers to survive. The best way to do that is to attack and force services on good parents. For one simple reason. ACS knows that these parents love their children and would never harm them. Its the equivalent of the mechanic facing a car that is not broken. He can claim after the fact that he's a great mechanic. ACS forces parents into useless ACS programs and at the end of the year they write a report to the city Council outlining how many families they have "helped" and ask fro more funding. This is the political money game that ACS workers play. They are advised by their supervisors that parents MUST enter services, or else. That threat is usually veiled but often more direct." if you don't do this we will take you to court." The threat is ACS's most powerful tool. Do Not fall for this.
